yesterday was a very interesting day. i will leave it at that because thinking too much about it makes my head hurt.
in honor of yesterday, i am going to share a talk by Jeffrey R. Holland. Basically it states sometimes it is after we know what we need to do that the hardship starts, but if we have faith and trust in Jesus Christ we will stay strong. Clearly he says it much better than me.

Vacation Bible School
So I grew up in Georgia aka the Bible Belt. During the summer parents didn't send their children to summer camp or um the other camps out there but little children were sent to Vacation Bible School. I was one of those children. An affordable day camp that got me and my sisters out of the house and something constructive and as a bonus learned about the Bible. My mom was allll for it.
We did things like learn about Noah's Arc, look at pictures of different Bible stories...try and recreate those stories with macaroni art. Life was good. Though what I remember most is the singing. Of course there was singing-- we learned all sort of songs like this little light of mine. pretty classic. Though the one that has stuck with me is "Jesus Loves Me This I Know"
here are the lyrics. I really only remember the first verse and the refrain. The refrain is what gets you. So catchy. really. I still sing it to this day which I think is great. Yes! Jesus Loves Me!

What a great song to learn as a child to remind throughout their life about the love of the Savior. I tell you one thing. My mom sure knew what she was doing. What a smart lady.

7 Days of Easter
Easter is one of my favorite holidays.
I love dying eggs, creating Easter baskets, and eating the deviled eggs made from the previously dyed eggs.
However, I sometimes think that Easter is one of the most over-looked holiday especially in relation to its signifigance. After traveling abroad and seeing how much celebration and importance is placed upon Easter compared to America, I feel the world overlooks the miracle Easter represents and begs us to remember- the Resurrection of the Savior, Jesus Christ.
Obviously this is a well-know argument around Christmas, but I feel at least at Christmas a person can at least see pictures of Christ through the ever displayed Nativity. At Christmas, many people read some version of the Navitiy and focus on serving others. The Spirit of Christmas is at least in the air. I don't believe the same thing happens at Easter. The Easter Bunny is the most prevalent. I know that I haven't read the story of the Resurrection near as many times as the Nativity. Why is that?
I wanted to shift my focus this year. Thus this blog post. Not in a "I want to show everyone I am focusing on Easter sort of way," but in I truly feel others feel the same. And as a leader of our church, President Uchdorft recently said that sharing of Christ helps us know him and even mentioned blogging, I think this is a perfect way to refocus our attention to Christ and the sacrifice He went through. The title of this blog is slightly self-explanatory. There are 7 days until Easter much like the 12 days of Christmas. Each day I will post something relating to Jesus Christ that has touched me throughout my life. This is somewhat difficult for me because I am a very private person as most of you know. ha.
In this first post I am going to post a talk written by President Spencer W. Kimball- a former Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
This talk was given around Christmas time, and was given to me by my father to read. It changed his life and because it did has directly influenced mine. I am so grateful for a father who leads by example, helps his children strive to be better, and always believes in them.

oh hey.
it is friday night. clearly i don't have anything better to do than blog....or else i would be doing it. as you have noticed i have not blogged in sometime. ok a full year. judge me. i've been busy. also. i am boring so really i did you a favor. i mean right now i am just rambling. sorry.
the point. my friends are mostly married. they are even having children. i get annoyed with children..well some of them. and mostly when they come into work (i work at a jewelry store) and rub their hands and noses all over the freshly windexed glass. i hate windexing the glass. (yes i just turned windex into a verb). anyway. this is not a good sign for me. sorry. i am venting to this blog. like i said ...my friends are married. all i have left is my cynicism that i like to mistake for wit and this blog. ok maybe that was an exaggeration. i have some books too...all i need now is a cat. ha.
so. the reason for the vent. a once good friend of mine is getting married. to an ex roommate of mine. we weren't exactly buddy buddy. she talked on the phone in the bathroom. clearly she can't be trusted. that is weird. but overall she is a really great person. and i am happy for them. no really. super happy. i think the problem is i might be slightly jealous. then i remember i can do whatever i want whenever i want. i am free. free fallin if you will. or so tom petty believes. however i was listening to my good friend landon pigg who says that not being tied down isn't the same as being free. which i get as well. i mean. lame. i am quoting landon pigg. but the teenage man has a point.
so. basically i'm in trouble because for the first time i know what i want...to go to law school, to go on some study abroads, to travel and experience life and all fun things I IIIII want to do. focus on I. selfish? yes please. BUT at the same time. I know i would like to get married. which is slightly scary and hard for me to admit. would i like to fall in l-o-v-e? (it seems less intense when it is spelled out) i believe so. even now i can't commit. i mean who am i kidding i can't even commit to a city. i guess to go back to song references i am ..perfectly lonely. i am content and happy with myself but also have the nagging realization that yes indeed. a relationship would be great..superb even.
THAT SAID.
i still want to go to law school and travel and do things that are not just following my new l-o-v-e around. holly don't play that game. yes. i'm from atlanta so i get one horrific sentence.

if you are going my way i'll go with you.

Social Networking
my cousin and i were having a conversation on gchat while also simultaneously commenting on each others facebook walls. yes. we were having two different conversations at the same time. welcome to the world of social networking. where multitasking includes keeping up your gmail account while also checking your facebook wall. it can get tricky. it is a good thing i don't tweet and/ or twitter that is a bit too much for me to handle. who needs that really. though clearly i think that i am important enough to blog and actually believe people want to read it. we are quiet self- absorbed, my generation. though. i mean. we are pretty awesome.

TA-DA
so i finished war and peace. in less than 3 months..barely. anyway. it was quite the read.
also who has ever heard of a 100 page epilogue. tolstoy apparently thought it was a good idea.
i might beg to differ.
so in my reasons for starting to read war and peace. i left out a major reason-- bragging rights. i mean it is gold. it is a great feeling to start a sentence by...when i read war and peace...or i just finished war and peace. it sounds snooty i know but i did just finish war and peace...i should get some recognition right?
also. i feel that i should name an animal after a character in war and peace. so when people come over and ask my pet's name the conversation can go like this-
'what is your dog's name?'
'-- some character's name--(i haven't decided yet)'
'oh that is interesting. where did you get that name?'
'oh i named him after a character in war and peace, have you read it?'
ha. amazing.
ok. seriously though.
the book was good for the most part and had some really insightful things in it. at one point i even marked a line. yes. i am a nerd. though i think someone has to be interested in the napoleonic wars with russia to make it through. you know in atlas shrugged where ayn rand (yup, i am book dropping again) lectures you about politics and different capitalistic views. tolstoy does the same thing but with understanding history and human behavior and some things i may or may not recall. (some of these are really interesting and he has amazing insight, others..you just read to read them) however, the story line is really good. again you must like 19th century russia. so basically you have to be a really big war and russia nerd. guilty.
overall. i'm glad i read it. the benefits are already paying off. ( i answered a trivia question about who married the princess of austria in 1808 correct...yes, it was napoleon.)
