Tis the Season to be Holly

I thought that was hilarious when I was 8. I still think it is kind of funny, clever at least.

So my name is Holly. It is Christmas Time. The amount of times I hear my name has grown exponentially.

One day. I believe it was Christmas Eve. A man said "Holly, that is a festive name."

I wanted to say. "I changed it just for the season. normally it is Gertrude."

DISCLAIMER FOR LACK OF CHRISTMAS SPIRIT: I was just in a wreck in Provo and had to wait around for hours when I was flying home to GA that day. I was stressed.

The other day, i thought i heard someone say my name. I turned around just in time to hear "Fa la la la la, la la la la."

This got me thinking. How many Christmas songs am I part of?

Well we have:

"Deck the halls with boughs of Holly." This song always got some interesting comments about how i could be decor. they were always much appreciated. i do like the fa la la la las. though.

I also like the Holly and the Ivy. I think I like it because it is lesser known. A treasure when you hear it if you will.

"Oh by gosh, by golly, it's time for mistletoe and holly" I love this one. it is fun. also kinda implies that someone is wanting me and mistletoe. just saying. I like it best when sung by Frank Sinatra.

"Haul out the holly"..from we need a little Christmas. Not necessarily my favorite. Sounds like i have eaten too many Christmas sweets. Plus who likes to be hauled anywhere?

"You will get a sentimental feeling When you hear voices singing "Let's be jolly; Deck the halls with boughs of holly"...and I do.

"But the prettiest sight to see is the Holly that will be On your own front door. " One of my personal favorites. I took the liberty of capitalizing Holly.

"Pine cones and Holly Berries" from Pine Cones and Holly Berries. I didn't know this song existed.

lastly (well i'm sure there are more but i think this is a little out of control already) is Holly Jolly Christmas.

who honestly can say they don't like this song? maybe the grinch (pre-heart expansion of course, i'm sure he is a fan now.)

Anyway. I think "have a holly jolly Christmas" takes the cake. (my nickname was once holly jolly, and i am on strict orders to marry someone with the last name jolly)

really? really?

so.

i am part of a list serve.

people write in saying what they need or what to get rid of. apts for sale. job available. you know generic things. or so i thought.

the list serve has become a mild source of entertainment for me. in an 'wow, i am totally judging these people for their posts' sort of way.

yes, i am a jerk, but if people didn't write such fascinatingly weird things i wouldn't be able to judge them for it. so really. it isn't all my fault.

anyway.

some examples of what i have found-

"anyone want to do something tonight"

now. this might seem normal enough. but really you don't have a couple of numbers you could text?

another one of my personal favorites is a post about homemade jam for sale.

now. bravo on making jam. i do not possess this talent. also. yea for being an entrepreneur. however. jam? maybe if this was a list serve for those over 40. make that 60. i mean i feel the target audience is a little off. (the list serve is mainly people in their 20s) Also. i should mention this is a single adults list serve. i think of this more as an attempt to say..boys. i can make jam. look at all of my domestic skills. and oddly enough... i happen to be single.

there was one about someone wanting a person to swim with to help them loose weight. another thing that maybe should be asked to closer friends than 100s of strangers. i'm just saying.

now to the ultimate one.

the sugar glider.

i will copy and paste. the wording is too amazing to paraphrase.

"Stitch is a 8 year old neutered male Sugar Glider. He's been a great pet and I'm sad to have to let him go. He's got a fun and curious personality. Sugar Gliders require alot of love and attention but are alot of fun. They are nocturnal and he will usually wake up and want to play and eat around 10 pm. He sleeps all day and this is a perfect time to carry him around in a pouch and bond with him.. Sugar Gilders life span is about 10-15 years in captivity.
I would prefer to place him with someone who is familiar with Sugar Gilders and loves animals."

now.

let's take a minute.

nothing in that description sounds appealing.

curious personality = gets into things and makes a mess.
require a lot of love and attention= time i don't have and if i did i would get a dog
wants to play and eat at 10 PM. PM!= i sleep at this time.

the pouch things is just bizarre.

and good luck placing them with people who already know about sugar gliders.

also i looked this animals up on google images. they are ugly and creepy.

i sent this post to a couple of friends.

i now have ads for sugar gliders in my gmail toolbar.

karma.

ps. i think this might be the same person with the jam.
